Happy Thanksgiving!
I know I'm a little bit late saying this but... HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you, Budget Bytes readers. Because of you I have learned many things, have had a goals, motivation and many smiles on my face. I appreciate your participation, comments, knowledge and presence! Without your participation and input, Budget Bytes wouldn't even be a shadow of what it is today. THANK YOU!
I hope this next year proves to be as exciting, fulfilling and enjoyable as 2010.

I mainly mooched this Thanksgiving but my sister and I made some quick sauteed brussels sprouts with garlic.
I also wanted to share a little bit of a Louisiana Thanksgiving with you and hear about yours!
My favorite dish this year was the two, absolutely scrumptious stuffed pork loins that my friend Jeffrey made.

He stuffed each loin with different fillings (like figs, nuts, cranberries, etc.), grilled them then slathered them with a couple of amazing glazes.

They were not only stunning but every bit as delicious!

How is that for presentation??

This is the amazing chef, Jeffrey, and myself. I keep telling him he needs to start a food blog because his food is AMAZING.

Only in Louisiana will you open up a cooler (maybe expecting to find cold beverages) and find a freshly caught alligator tail.

I had to inspect the gator tail a little closer... I had to touch it!

The look of disbelief on my sister's face says it all...
Thanksgiving this year was wonderful. I got to spend time with my sister and my adoptive brother (Jeffrey), relax and enjoy some spectacular food and wine. Big thanks once again to everyone for making Thanksgiving and the entire year very special!!

Your blog has inspired me to cook so much more! and I've learned a lot more about cooking in general. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put together this blog.
The best dish I've had this year was a wild rice "burger" from the Duluth Grill in Duluth, MN. Might be a good blog post! They are so tasty. I made them at home with wild rice, oats, black beans, red and green peppers, onion, egg and seasonings. Rolled them into balls like you would a normal hamburger and cooked it on my mini george forman. Very tasty and healthy and able to be remade into taco meat or w/e you want! I ate them for 2 weeks straight, ha ha.
However the dish I made most often were your pesto stuffed shells. SOOO delicious and probably my favorite meal ever.

I am afraid to ask, but can't help myself!
WHAT did they do with the alligator tail?

Amy, they probably ate it. Never had it, but a whole lotta my friends are from Louisiana and eat gator all the time.
Thanksgiving, the best thing I ate was my grandma's stuffing. We made it with half a loaf of bread I made (a twist on your wheat sandwich bread)and half white bread. So good!

I have had fried alligator tail at the South Eastern Wildlife Expo (it's held in Charleston, where I'm from) and it wasn't bad. Since it was done in mass production I felt like it lost its something special, but I still enjoyed it.
My favorite dish this Thanksgiving was also brussels sprouts, but my grand mother makes them with butter, shallots, walnuts, a touch of lemon juice and lots of parmesan cheese. They're the big hit every Thanksgiving.

Amy - unfortunately, the day was so busy, no one was able to get around to cleaning or cooking the tail that day :) Most of the time the meat is cut into chunks, breaded and fried. I've never actually had it though!

Like most others who read your blog I've learned so much. Love your recipes and ideas, please keep 'em coming. My favorite recipe was your honey wheat sandwich bread. Brilliant!

Looks like you had a great Thanksgiving!
My favorite thing that my boyfriend and I made this year was green bean casserole from scratch (a la Good Eats), but everything we had was amazing.
Thank YOU for having such a wonderful blog!

Jeffrey looks like a young Dan Akroyd! I've tried many of your recipes but my favorite was the lentil and turkey sausage soup about 2 weeks ago. It was so great that I sent it to several people who also tried it! Now we have leftover ham from Thanksgiving and I think I'll do the lentils with the ham and bone. Thank you Beth!

Used the mushroom herb gravy you posted a while back to go over garlic-mashed potatoes and Fri-Chik-impregnated stuffing - turned out great! Best meal last week: first attempt at a tartiflette (from http://www.cuisine-french.com/cgi/mdc/l/en/recettes/tartiflette_ill.html - but with fake bacon to keep it vegetarian), which I whole-heartedly recommend.

You know how to cook, girl! I decided to break from the site for a couple of weeks and try some other recipes. They were just not as good as yours. I don't know how you do it, but you know how to give dishes flavor. I print out the ones I like because I keep telling my SO that you may decide to quit the blog one day and put out a cookbook instead. So better make sure I have everything I can get my hands on.

In my opinion, you can't have a true Louisiana Thanksgiving without potato salad! Everyone's got their own family variation (I'll never forget the time I had real Cajun gumbo and potato salad in Eunice!) but I loooove my mom's.
