BB review: "I'm Just Here for the Food Vs. 2.0" by: Alton Brown
Okay, I got this great book for Christmas (thx Jeffrey!) and it's so good that I had to share it with y'all. There is truly something in this book for everyone, from the seasoned cook to the newbie.

It appears that Alton Brown has written many books (8 according to Amazon.com) but I had not read any, despite being a HUGE fan. If the other 7 books are anywhere near as good as this one, I've got some reading to do.
I'm Just Here for the Food Version 2.0 is not just a recipe book but also a teaching tool. Each chapter is dedicated to a different method of cooking and, in true Alton fashion, he describes the the science behind the each method in an entertaining and easy to read way. The chapters are as follows:
Within each chapter he also includes several recipes utilizing that method or technique. Recipes range from the basics (hard cooked eggs, meatloaf, perfect baked potatoes) to fancy-schmancy (artichoke & feta wontons, turkey & fig breakfast meatloaf, olive stuffed pork loin). The red onion and tomato jam is at the top of my list!
To top it all off (and to my pleasant surprise) the book included these very cool meat diagram magnets!!

So now, if you ever have a question about a cut of meat, you can just look on your fridge! Amazing.
The appendix is chock full of even more helpful knowledge with more meat blueprints, a list of basic culinary toolbox items, food safety, a reading list and metric conversion charts.

(without any payment or coercion from the author or publishers)
GO BUY IT NOW!

Science, food and Alton Brown, my favorite ingredients! He is by far one of my favorite people on the foodnetwork to watch and I got to visit Atlanta recently, where I think he films Good Eats or at least I know he lives near the city, and stop in at a few places he recommened through some other Food Network shows. They were all unique and of course great food. I will have to check this book out. Thanks for the review and I guess all that food blogging too.
