lodge cast iron GIVEAWAY
[CLOSED]
It's my 500th post and time to celebrate!!I've gotten into the habit of giving away things that I don't have, but want, so here we go again today! Three big winners of this giveaway will receive this super cool Lodge Cast Iron dutch oven / skillet combo set! You can use the bottom as a stock pot or in the oven as a dutch oven and the lid doubles as a skillet! How cool is that?!
If you've never cooked with cast iron, it will really help you take your cooking to the next level. Because it's super thick and heavy, it heats evenly and can get really hot, which will help with browning and charring.
What else can you do with this awesome piece of cookery? You can bake no-knead bread in there to get an extra crispy crust! You could probably use the skillet part in the oven to make deep dish pizzas too. The thick iron works very similarly to a pizza stone.
So, the question you have to answer to enter the giveaway is...
What is one food that you could never live without?
I may have asked this question before, but it always gets fun answers and there are a lot of new people around these days :)
HOW TO ENTER:
- Leave a comment on this blog post answering "What is one food you could not live without?"
- Next, log in to the contest box below using either your email address or facebook account (so I can contact you if you win).
- Click the "Do it!" button, and then the big, green "I commented!" button. Your entry will not be counted unless you do this step.
Good Luck!

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 1384 Newer› Newest»Favorite pizza top is vegetables - as many as possible.
My favorite pizza topping is peppers!!! All colors and varieties.
Cheese!!!!!
I adore mushrooms on pizza. I know a lot of people are against fungi on their pie, but I love it!
I could never live without pizza!!! Love your blog Beth! :)
I love fresh mushrooms on my pizza!!!!
Mushrooms!!
Pineapple. Love pineapple on my pizza. :)
My favorite pizza topping is BBQ chicken. Thank you!
I don't know if it counts as food, but I couldn't live without coffee.
Favorite pizza topping by far is sausage:-)
Roasted garlic.
... cheesecake. Guilty as charged! :D
Cheese!
Mushrooms, I think I like the canned ones better on my pizza though! :/
Provolone cheese!
Potatoes! I love it in many forms...baked, mashed, chips, etc.
I could not live without rice. So cheap and so versatile.
cheese is my favorite pizza topping!
er.. that was the food I couldn't live without. I don't eat cheesecake on my pizza. lol
My favorite food that I can absolutely NOT live without is dark chocolate. :-)
Potatoes! I love it in many forms...baked, mashed, chips, etc.
Cheese....after a long thought....definitely cheese. :)
The one food I could never live without is chicken. Thank you.
Ice cream!
Cheese! It makes anything better.
Pasta! Any kind!
Fruit. I could live on fruit, but I'm pretty sure I'd die without it! <3
I couldn't live without pasta! There's so much you can do with it...
I love strawberries--for breakfast, a snack, dessert, whatever. I don't think I could ever live without them. Especially in the summertime!
One food I could not live without is CHOCOLATE.
The food I couldn't live without is potatoes. I don't know a way I don't like them and they are soooo good in things like Massuman curry (I had a Massuman curry burrito last week that was AMAZING)!
I could never live with CHEESE. The world would be a cold dark place.
Cheese all the way!
Spaghetti. Combines pasta, vegetables, a meat include (sausage/meatballs) and my favorite flavoring GARLIC!
I love pesto!, definitely my favorite Pizza topping! Email is lgturby@yahoo.com
I couldn't live without chocolate. I have a hard and fast addiction that I'm completely fine with. :P
I would find it hard to live without ... so many things. Homemade bread is a current favorite.
Garlic--I put it in everything (almost).
So hard to choose just one, but I'm going to go with garlic!
I would say either rice or potatoes, so versatile...
ice cream just have to have it once in awhile!
Mushrooms are my all time favourite pizza topping. I can barely get through any sort of dish without them. They are closely followed by BBQ sauce
I absolutely love tomatoes... especially now, tomatoes fresh off the vine are fabulous! They're great on pizza too! :)
The one food I cannot live without is chicken. :)
Cheese!
I could never live without Sriracha because it can turn ANY food into a spicy treat!
I couldn't live without hamburgers - the seasonings I can put on it make for endless variety, and I even love it by itself.
Favorite pizza topping is whole strips of bacon, bar none.
(Answered both because the RSS feed said pizza topping, but the actual page says favorite food.)
I can't live without pizza! You've seen my efforts to go one month without... and failing miserably!
I couldn't live without cereal. When I'm super hungry and even 10 minutes to cook is too long to go without food, cereal comes to the rescue, always.
I don't think I could live without peanut butter...I eat it with breakfast and snacks every day!
Cows are one food I couldn't live without.
Shrimp! I could eat them with every meal and not grow tired of them.
Hmm, if it's a *food* I couldn't live without I'd say cheese, generally. As far as dishes go, it's tricky. I *love* beans and rice, and simple as it sounds. I think the fact that I'm full right now (of beans and rice) is making me not very creative!
I could not live without peppers! Peppers make everything better!
I can't live without meat!
The one food I could not live without is definitely chocolate...I try to follow the motto "Stay Calm and Eat Chocolate"....lol!
Spaghetti Carbonara. Simple bacon, egg, cheese, and delicious noodles with a ton of black pepper. It is my favourite meal and always makes me feel good!!
I couldn't live without chocolate (coffe either)!
I could never ever live without Pasta!
It's more a flavor, but I cannot live without garlic. Basil is a close second, but garlic is by far the most used food/flavor in my kitchen.
So many foods i can't live without...but i would have to say pizza!!
"What is one food you could not live without?"
I've been thinking about it, and I'd have to say homemade yogurt is one thing I wouldn't want to live without. I've been running out of it, lately, rather than being able to make more before the last batch has been used up, and it's not fun! I've gotten so accustomed to substituting it in recipes and using it to whip up dips and dressings, plus I just don't feel "right" internally when I go without eating it for a few days. I definitely wouldn't want to try to live without it period.
Pepperoni and cheese
I could not live without garlic! Makes everything better! :)
Chicken. We eat it all the time.
Chicken in one form or another. SO many things one can do with that wonderful protein.
The one food I could not live without is definitely chocolate. I try to follow the motto "Stay Calm and Eat Chocolate"....lol!
I have two favourite topics - pepperoni&onion and the combination of feta cheese, spinach, onion and garlic (yes, I really, really love onion on my pizzas :D )
Rice. I have some stomach issues, and it's the one thing I can always eat. Plus, I can do about a billion things with it, so it never gets boring.
Close call between bread, cheese and chocolate, but I'm going with chocolate!
Croutons! It all started with my Grandma Ollie making wonderful croutons from scratch when I was small. I used to dip each crouton one by one into blue cheese dressing as a snack. I still am always on the look out for a great great crouton!
I could never live without pizza
Absolutely couldn't live without peanut butter!
Huh, tricky tricky. I think I'd have to say tomatoes. There just way too many delicious foods that need tomatoes!
I could not live without Memphis style BBQ ribs, particularly the ones made by my husband.
P.S. I'm pregnant, so this was really hard to answer...lol.
The one food I couldn't live with out, would be tomatoes. The most versatile of all foods.
Flour. Always have it. Always need it. For something...
Freshly baked bread! Must have!
I couldn't live without noodles. Cheap and delicious. :)
Eggs! They're so versatile- great hard boiled, fried, or used in baking! As a vegetarian, they also make for a quick and easy protein alternative. yum!
Cheese, chocolate, coffee, or bacon.....I suppose cheese if I had to pick just one though.
Pizza! Can do so many things with it :)
I could not live without my delicious baked oatmeal every morning, it's really what starts my day out in the right direction :D

Oh there are so many things running through my head right now! I'm going to go with either cheese or pancakes, but gerneally not both at the same time.
I can't live without cheese. I love it on just about everything.
I can't live without bread. There is nothing like hot, crusty bread fresh out of the oven!
I am very confused by the pizza topping answers, so I will answer that too! Feta and Artichokes are my absolute favourite toppings for pizza.
Food I can't live without?
Dark chocolate (particularly when it is covering something awesome like candied ginger, pretzels, strawberries, etc.)
Chicken Tikka Masala - local Indian restaurant makes it PERFECTLY! (crossing fingers, I LOOOOVE cast iron!!!)
I cannot live without cheese! I've tried so hard to cut dairy out of my diet but cheese is like crack for me... so addicting!!
If I had to pick one food I could never live without, I think it would have to be granny smith apples. It's the first thing I put on my grocery list, you can legitimately eat them alone, or with any meat, or as a multitude of desserts. It's crisp, juicy, refreshing, and one of the prettiest shades of green ever! It's a perfect little fruit!
The food that I couldn't live with out is bread... er, or cheese... bread AND cheese. Do I have to choose just one? Give me a loaf of fresh sourdough and some havarti any day!
Gotta be chocolate. Anything else can replace itself. Pasta/bread/rice are all about the same to me.
Potatoes... nough' said :)

Cheese! A world without cheese is just not worth living in.
I could not love without cucumbers. I may be a little addicted. Every night I eat numbers with seasoned rice wine vinegar with roasted sesame seeds. It helps me not eat late night snacks that would upset my tummy later. I would love the skillet!

I could never live without (real) maple syrup! I am Canadian and although I have lived in Virginia for 6 years, I still can't eat the fake pancake syrup. It was thrown out of the house as soon as I moved in with my husband. Whenever I visit Quebec (or someone visits me) I get several cans of maple syrup in hope that I'll make it to the next visit.
I love trying to include maple flavors to pretty much any types of dish, sweet and savory alike! :)
Bacon! It makes so many things better, from baked potatoes to sandwiches.
Does wine count?! ;) If not, or even if it does, I'll choose potatoes. They're so versatile and I love love LOVE the recipe you posted for baked potato fries - they're made very regularly in my house.
Bananas. I love them. I have one every day.
As far as a full dish goes, definitely burritos! On a single ingredient scale, probably cheese. Cheese makes everything better. :)

I tried to boil it down to elementals, but that was way too difficult, so I have to take it up to a higher level: The one food I could not live without is barbeque.
In my imagination, a world without barbeque looks like Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road.'
I could not live without peanut butter. I spent a semester in Spain in college, where peanut butter is impossible to find anywhere. I got so desperate that I made my mom bring me a jar when she visited!
Ice Cream!! Doesn't matter what flavor (my favorite changes all the time) just so long as I have the creamy, sweet, frozen goodness on a very regular basis! :)
Obviously this is a little clichéd, but I could not live without chocolate!

What one food? Onion. It goes with many things, and helps provide flavor.
pasta! Nights that I don't know what to cook usually end up with a pasta of some sort, either in an italian or asian preparation :)
Cheese, hands down!

I could not live without beans and cornbread. I would shrivel up and die in the winter trying to figure out what to eat that would fit in the budget, be reheatable, freezable, and healthy.
I don't think I could live without rice. Or potatoes. One or the other.
Peppers! Great example why:

Potatoes in any shape or form, it must be the Irish in me :)
BREAD! I adore bread in practically all its forms! I type this as I'm munching on homemade pizza. I would LOVE a cast iron vessel to make some no-knead magic happen... ;)
I couldn't live without French fries! It's terrible, but I love any and all fries ;)
Cheese is definitely my cant live without food.
